THE EDGE OF SEVENTEEN

ROG'S VIEWPOINT - High school life becomes intolerable for Nadine (Hailee Steinfeld) when she finds out that her older brother Darian (Blake Jenner) is dating her best friend Krista (Haley Lu Richardson). Feeling angry and alone, she turns to teacher Mr. Bruner (Woody Harrelson), who becomes a reluctant sounding board for all that is happening
in her life. Writer/director Kelly Fremon Craig has created a smart and funny John Hughes style movie for this generation. Hailee Steinfeld ("True Grit") nails the teen angst without missing a beat. She delivers the clever and humorous dialogue as only a true star could. While the supporting cast is terrific, it's Woody Harrelson who takes center stage with his witty sarcasm. Kyra Sedgwick handles the motherly chores as Nadine's mom. Aimed at teens, language and sexual content earn this film an adult "R" rating. With an entertaining nod to "Sixteen Candles", "The Edge of Seventeen" edges easily into Hughes territory. ****
