RULES DON'T APPLY

ROG'S VIEWPOINT - Howard Hughes (Warren Beatty) disrupts the romance between an aspiring actress (Lily Collins) and her young driver (Alden Ehrenreich). Director/writer Warren Beatty has concocted a good old-fashioned romantic comedy that is sure to please baby boomers. Lily Collins and Alden Ehrenreich are
an engaging couple, but the movie really shines when Beatty is on screen as the eccentric Hughes. This makes the film uneven, but still enjoyable. The supporting cast is filled with superstars in small roles including Annette Bening, Alec Baldwin, Martin Sheen, Candice Bergen, Paul Sorvino and more. Matthew Broderick briefly takes the spotlight as Hughes' right-hand man. While not perfect, "Rules Don't Apply" is a welcome break from big screen violence. As a king of Hollywood royalty, Warren Beatty still rules. ***
