HACKSAW RIDGE

The inspirational true story of WWII American Army Medic Desmond T. Doss, who saved many lives during the Battle of Okinawa and was the first conscientious objector in U.S. history to be awarded
the Medal of Honor. Director Mel Gibson masterfully contrasts Doss' religious upbringing with the carnage of military conflict. Award-worthy performances from Andrew Garfield as Doss, Hugo Weaving as his father and Vince Vaughn as a tough drill master highlight this sweeping heartfelt drama. Graphic and intense battle sequences rival those of "Saving Private Ryan". At times this film has a faith-based feel, but Mr. Gibson never gets too preachy. "Hacksaw Ridge" is a cut above the standard war epics. ****
